***EARTHCANDY is in New York City this week and spotlighting some of the FOOD, FASHION & FLYNESS that the Big Apple has to offer.***
is the leading US art fair dedicated solely to contemporary art. Soooo, how lucky am I to be in NYC and stumble upon this annual event?!?
This year it’s held at the Metropolitan Pavilion, located in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. On view are approximately 50 contemporary art galleries in the main fair and IMPULSE sections.
Though I’m not artsy fartsy, I love wandering through the exhibit halls, taking in all the artwork. There’s no rhyme or reason to my taste; I simply like what I like!
Here is the list of galleries exhibiting this year. Since I didn’t take any pics (sorry ya’ll), take the time to peruse through the list of galleries and check out the amazing artists they represent.
Volta NY art fair was happening as well. This particular event is an invitational show of solo artists’ projects and is the American rendition of the art fair founded in Basel(Switzerland) in 2005. VOLTA NY was conceived by art critic and fair director Amanda Coulson to continue the original mandate of a tightly-focused, boutique event that is a place for discovery. Here they provide a platform for challenging, often complimentary, sometimes competing ideas about contemporary art.
Again, me + artsy-fartsy= negative, but I TOTALLY dig works by artist Tim Okamura. Here’s a link to his site featuring “all things Okamura”, including paintings that I enjoyed viewing in person!
Actually, this outing was a nice kick-off to my weekend of art-gazing for when I attended my partner and fine artist extraordinaire Fahamu Pecou‘s solo show at Lyons Wier Gallery on Saturday, March 5th! TALK ABOUT FLYNESS! Hmm….maybe I AM getting a lil ‘art-cultured’, huh. 🙂
